Forces of Nature
I’ve been asked the question many times, “Why Maine?!” I grew up in the Somerset Hills Region of Morris County, New Jersey on a two hundred acre country estate that had been previously owned by the Balbachs. It was their summer home and they entertained such guests there as Thomas Edison and Grover Cleveland. It was much more rural at that time and I lived in a world surrounded by the forces of nature. Maine’s appeal, with its mountains, rivers, forests and coastline offers a never ending source of inspirations for juggling, which celebrates the forces of nature through explorations of gravity and raw materials. Fresh springs. Mines that produce jewelry. Trees that produce wood for furniture, homes and carving into shapes. Wildlife. Four very distinct seasons that contain shorter sub-seasons. So it’s like living in many places without going anywhere. What a dumb question.
A Private Retreat
Eureka is a secluded, quiet, artsy hideaway with an elegant private studio and comfortable living quarters. It is surrounded by farms, forests, lakes, and fresh air. We offer affordable lodging for travelers, residencies for artists, studio rentals, and private instruction. We can accommodate small groups or individuals wanting to retreat from the outside world. Our venue is a great space to focus on projects, rest and relax, or use as a base for exploring southern Maine.
Research & Experimentation
I love to explore and research new possibilities with innovative juggling techniques. My laboratory in Maine is where I develop new acts, construct props and do video documentation. Here I’m demonstrating how objects all fall at the same rate with a five ball ParaPlay cascade. What is peculiar about cascades in the parabolic plane is that an empty space gets created due to the parabola as opposed to a flat vertical plane.
Innovative Capturing
Endless experiments with cameras and juggling! Here’s a piece that ended up in my ABOVE & BEYOND Travelogue tour that was unfortunately interrupted by covid. Gettin’ Jiggy with a 360 lens.
