Dynamic Play

The Anatomy of a Methodology to Create Authentic and Innovative Performances Using Objects
RECONDITION THE MIND

Playfulness is the key. Not work.

Playfulness and enjoyment is at the very heart of playing dynamically with objects. There are 5 intrinsic motivators that go hand in hand with strengthening creative muscle and tapping into what many refer to as a flow state, a good mood in which productivity, inspiration and enjoyment takes off. Our state of mind and mood is altered and what we’re doing isn’t stale at all but fresh, fun and exciting. We just riff and jam.

How It Works

The Five Intrinsic Motivators

Intrinsic motivators don’t require any external reward to motivate us. Intrinsic motivators are the key to overcoming procrastination, laziness and a lack of inspiration. These are quite simple, but very effective.

Curiosity

A child is very curious and mischievous. Put the concerns of paying bills aside, and give yourself sufficient time to enjoy some curiosity. It feels good. Curiosity can only happen in the present moment.

Mastery

We enjoy being good at something just for its own sake. No one has to applaud us in order for us to enjoy mastering something. It makes us feel good.

Purpose

If we identify a noble purpose, it can drive us and motivate us. Purpose is somehow making the world a better place. Helping others, righting wrongs, making something beautiful.

Autonomy

When you’re autonomous, you are free to do something your way. There are no deadlines. Autonomy is freedom.

Passion

If you’re trying to enjoy something that you simply have no passion and interest for, you won’t enjoy it. Try something else. If you do have passion for it, recognize that the love for it is the only reason you really need to be spending your time on the activity.

I’ve always had a passion for juggling and playing with objects and elevating that towards a high art.
